£8m Arsenal target's agent: 'No meeting' with rival club this weekend

Kostas Manolas' agent has confirmed he will not be talking to Roma about his client this weekend.

It is now two weeks since Arsenal decided to sell club captain Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona for a fee in the region of £15 million.

Since then their summer signing from Southampton Calum Chambers has proven himself as an excellent central defensive option. However Arsenal are still believed to be on the hunt for a centre back option, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed they are still looking for a central-defender to replace the Belgian.

One player who has been heavily linked with a switch to The Emirates is Olympiakos defender Kostas Manolas. The Greek international is available this summer. His club have confirmed if a team makes an £8 million bid for his services, they will allow him to depart.

Arsenal have been strongly linked, with reports in the past week falsely claiming that he had already undergone a medical at the North London club.

But talk of this move has recently cooled, with reports Bayern Munich and now AS Roma could swoop in and snap him up in Arsenal's absence.

Roma are after a potential replacement for Mehdi Benatia, should the Moroccan get his move from the Stadio Olimpico this summer, and reports have suggested the Giallorossi had turned their attentions to the Greek talent.

Roma are also in Greece this weekend. They take on AEK Athens in their last friendly before the beginning of the Serie A season and rumours have spread in Italy that Manolas may hold talks with Roma officials whilst they are in the Greek capital.

But good news for Arsenal, as his agent has denied such rumours. Ioannis Evangelopoulos has told Vocegiallorossa that he will not be chatting to Roma officials about Manolas' future this weekend:

"No, there will be no meeting with the Roma for Manolas. I do not really know if this will be possible."

Roma are seemingly out of the running, so Arsenal should move quick for this undoubtedly talented central defender.

Should Arsenal sign Manolas?
