Kane after Europa League winner: It always feels good to score

Tottenham's homegrown forward is looking an important figure at the club, after scoring the winner in a 2-1 win over AEL Limassol.

Young Spurs striker Harry Kane celebrated his recent extended contract at Spurs by proving himself the match winner in Thursday's Europa League tie with AEL Limassol.

Erik Lamela's appearance from the bench helped turn around a game that saw Tottenham losing 1-0 heading into the last 20 minutes, with the Argentinian setting up both goals. For Kane's strike he played a pass just close enough for the defender to commit to a tackle, only for the striker to poke it clear and then smash it into the top corner from the edge of the box.

It continued a superb spell of form for the 21-year-old, who also enjoyed a hot streak at the end of last season when he scored 3 goals in 7 Premier League games.

Last weekend Kane came off the bench to set up debutant Eric Dier to score the only goal in the London derby with West Ham, but the Spurs graduate was more than happy to be the one doing the finishing in Cyprus.

“It always feels good to score,” said Kane.

“The keeper played well, made some great saves but as a striker you have to keep going and keep believing the next chance will be the goal.

“It was the fourth of fifth chance and eventually I put it in the back of the net and that’s what counts."

The forward wasn't surprised by the difficult nature of the game against AEL, who beat Zenit Saint Petersburg in the first leg of a Champions League qualifying match earlier in the season.

“I thought AEL were good, they were tough opponents. They had some good individual players but played as a team as well. We had to be patient but we knew if we kept moving the ball the chances would come.

“We came away with a win and that’s what we came here to do.”
