Former Liverpool and Newcastle United striker Michael Owen believes that Wayne Rooney will score for Manchester United against Sunderland on Sunday.

Place a bet on Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney to score against Sunderland at the Stadium of the Light in the Premier League on Sunday.

That’s the message from Liverpool legend Michael Owen, who believes that his former England international teammate will find the net against the Black Cats.

‘Wayne Rooney has scored 81 PL goals away from Old Trafford and only Alan Shearer with 87 has more; the United skipper is sure to be high on confidence after scoring on the opening day and he might be able to unlock the home defence at the Stadium of Light’, Owen, who played for United from 2009 to 2012, wrote on Betvictor.com.

Rooney started United’s opening game of the season against Swansea wearing the captain’s armband and scored a brilliant goal.

It was the equaliser in the 53rd minute, but the Red Devils failed to capitalise on it and went on to lose the contest 2-1.

Former Everton star Rooney did not have the best of times on the pitch despite his goal and left an impression that he could have done more.

However, Rooney and his United teammates will be fired up for their clash against Sunderland on Sunday, and manager Louis van Gaal will do his utmost to ensure that they return to Manchester with all three points.

It will not be easy for the 20-time English champions, though, as the Black Cats are high on confidence following a good 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns last weekend.
