Real Madrid fans oppose Ancelotti's Angel Di Maria claims

Angel Di Maria

Real Madrid boss believes his side don’t need Manchester United target Angel Di Maria, but the fans disagree with him.

The absence of Manchester United target Angel Di Maria from the Spanish Super Cup final caused a huge talking point in the Spanish capital last night.

La Liga winners Atletico Madrid gained revenge on their city rivals for the Champions League loss by beating Real Madrid 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate to lift the Spanish Super Cup.

The biggest talking point from the game, however, was the nonappearance of Angel Di Maria and his possible departure to either the Red Devils or Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Los Blancos have had a poor pre-season without the Argentine superstar as they try to deal with his absence from the first-team by replacing him with World Cup sensation James Rodriguez and former Bayern star Toni Kroos.

Despite both players lacking the pace and directness of Di Maria and thus removing a huge weapon in Madrid’s artillery, boss Carlo Ancelotti stated after the game last night that the want-away Argentine simply wasn’t needed.

“The absence of Di Maria was my decision, I didn’t need him.” He said, quoted by the Spanish publication AS.

Unfortunately for the Italian coach, his opinion isn't similar to that of the Santiago Bernabeu faithful as a recent poll conducted by the same Spanish newspaper AS states that a whopping 85% believe the club need him.

Di Maria is said to feel undervalued by the club and Ancelotti’s recent comments will only benefit Manchester United in their attempts to lure him away from the club.

The Red Devils are in need of adding to their squad before the transfer deadline and with money appearing to be a non-issue, their chances of landing the star who contributed with an incredible 17 La Liga assists last season appear to be growing with each passing day.
