Potential blow for Leeds United in pursuit of Juventus star

Leeds United may miss out on the signing of Juventus defender Frederik Sorensen.

Leeds United’s attempts to sign Juventus defender Frederik Sorensen could be all but over within the next few days.

The Championship outfit were reportedly set to sign the Danish under-21 international two weeks ago as owner Massimo Cellino disclosed the deal to the press, quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay on August 6.

Unfortunately for the Whites, such a deal never materialised due to a reported breakdown over the 22-year-old’s wage demands, although the door was left open to renegotiate.

The likelihood of resurrecting a late deal before the transfer window deadline, however, now appears slim if reports in Italy are to be believed.

According to journalist Luca Marchetta from Tuttomercato, Sorensen could be about to sign a new deal at Juventus before spending the season out on loan at either Atlanta or Verona.

“Sorensen could renew his contract, and after he will have to choose between Verona and Atalanta.” Marchetta writes.

Missing out on Sorensen to another Serie A club could be a big blow for Leeds United in their bid to win promotion back to the Premier League this season.

The Elland Road outfit have started off the season rather disappointingly, losing two of their three matches and conceding four goals in the process.

Problems in defence leading back to last season have yet to be resolved, and Sorensen’s versatility along the back-four could have been extremely valuable over a long 46-game Championship campaign.
