Reportedly now or never for Leeds in chase for 31-goal Italian striker

Leeds United

Leeds United striker target Leonardo Pavoletti has been heavily linked with a summer transfer.

Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino may have only a number of days left to secure the transfer of Italian target Leonardo Pavoletti.

The 6ft 1inch striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Elland Road outfit over the summer following a successful spell in Italy’s second division.

Over the past two seasons, the 25-year-old helped parent club Sassuolo to promotion with 11 goals before returning to the second tier on loan with Varese, scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances.

With Cellino using his Italian connections to good use this summer with a number of players moving to Yorkshire, Pavoletti could be described as the final piece of the jigsaw should he repeat his goal-scoring antics in the Championship.

According to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, however, Leeds have to make their move now as Sassuolo look to use Pavoletti as makeweight in their bid to sign Genoa star Juraj Kucka.

“Sassuolo are offering €3M plus Pavoletti to acquire Kucka. If the deal went through, Pavoletti would be loaned to Cesena (with no option to buy). There’ll be a new meeting on Monday,” the report states.

Following the sale of Ross McCormack to fellow Championship promotion hopefuls Fulham, Leeds have brought in renowned goalscorer Billy Sharp from Southampton for a reported £600,000 as well as Italian striker Mirco Antenucci.

In the three championship games so far, however, the club have looked toothless in the final third, scoring just the one goal in the 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

Signing another striker before the deadline seems a must and with Sassuolo appearing keen on shipping out their out-of-favour goalscorer, it is an opportunity Leeds simply have to act upon before the proposed deal to Genoa goes through.

Should Leeds United make a last ditch attempt to sign Leonardo Pavoletti?
