Football broadcaster and pundit Stan Collymore has been mightily impressed with new Chelsea star Diego Costa.
Whilst his performances in general haven’t been particularly startling, the 25-year-old’s superb play inside the 18-yard box has left Collymore predicting many more goals from him this season.
He wrote on Twitter:
The Brazilian-born striker became a star across Europe last season as he scored a total of 36 goals in 52 appearances for Spanish champions Atletico Madrid.
Described as a bull with a lethal streak in-front of goal, he was quickly sounded out as the Blues’ number one transfer target and the player to spearhead Jose Mourinho’s side into a new era.
Despite his obvious ability, Costa arrived in London with a point to prove as many doubted his Premier League credentials with some suggesting that his £32 million transfer fee was excessive.
Boss Jose Mourinho, however, showed full confidence in his new player as he told reporters that Costa’s acquisition will help the club break down the so-called lesser Premier League sides because of his goalscoring instincts.
Despite there being a long way to go, the former Atletico fan favourite has so far produced the goods by netting two goals in two games against recently promoted duo Leicester City and Burnley.
Last season, Samuel Eto’o was Chelsea’s leading striker in terms of Premier League goals with just nine, whereas Fernando Torres and Demba Ba scored just five each.
Should Costa reach the 25-goal milestone, then he would become only the second Chelsea player after Didier Drogba to hit the figure in England’s top flight since Jimmy Greaves scored 41 during the 1960/61 season.
Will Diego Costa score 25+ Premier League goals this season?
