Lineker and Savage say what United fans won't want to hear

Gary Lineker and Robbie Savage had their say on Manchester United's current side during their match against Sunderland.

Manchester United were the subject of some harsh truths from Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker and football pundit Robbie Savage on Sunday afternoon.

At half-time in United's match against Sunderland, Louis van Gaal's side had huffed and puffed their way to a 1-1 score-line, Juan Mata's opener cancelled out by the Black Cats' new signing Jack Rodwell.

The visitors' first-half performance prompted Lineker to tweet something that no self-respecting United fan wants to hear.

"Goodness me," Lineker wrote, "Manchester United are ordinary!"

Given that United and their fans pride themselves on attacking football and a never-say-die attitude, being branded 'ordinary' is just about the biggest expletive-free insult they could suffer.

But it did not stop there, with Savage tweeting what many fans have known for some time.

"If United win from here it will be a great result," the former Welsh international wrote.  "This is one of (the) worst team (sic) United have fielded in prem since it started!"

The players on show may have something to say about that, but the simple fact is despite their outstanding front-three United have a number of players who simply have not justified their place in the team.

One thing is for sure: van Gaal is likely to be busy before the transfer window finally slams shut at the beginning of September.

What do you think of Lineker and Savage's comments?
