Liverpool loan star praised by manager after second goal in two games

Joao Teixeira

Brighton and Hove Albion manager Sami Hyypia has praised Liverpool loanee Joao Teixeira following another goal for the Seagulls.

Teixeira, 21, joined Liverpool from Sporting Lisbon back in January 2012, with the Reds paying around £830,000 in order to land the Portuguese youth international. However, Teixeira has only made one first team appearance for the club so far - a nine minute cameo against Fulham in February - despite an unsuccessful loan spell with then-League One side Brentford, where he only played twice.

Earlier this month, Teixeira was on the move again, this time joining up with Brighton and Hove Albion on loan for the entire season, with first team football hard to come by at Anfield with Brendan Rodgers chasing the Premier League title. Brighton's manager is ex-Reds defender Sami Hyypia, which is why Liverpool were so keen to loan him out to their former star.

So far, Teixeira has made a huge impact at the Amex Stadium. The diminutive playmaker grabbed the first goal in Brighton's 2-0 win at Leeds United on Tuesday, and followed that up with a well taken winning goal in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers - and Hyypia went on to praise the Liverpool youngster on he Reds' official website.

"He's good on the ball, a good football player, an intelligent player that can score goals," said Hyypia. "I hope he takes the advantage to play for us; normally loan deals work both ways, in that we give him the opportunity to play at this level.

"I think our style of play suits him as well. From our point of view, we can have a very good player on our side. He has a good mentality, is training well and we can push him to improve himself," the Finn added. "We need quality from the other players so that we can get him on the ball in dangerous areas and he can score goals. I think when we can get him on the ball around the box, he will be dangerous there."

Can Teixeira make an impact at Anfield when he returns from Brighton?
