Manchester United target Marco Reus has recovered from the ankle injury he suffered before the 2014 World Cup.
The Germany international missed Borussia Dortmund’s 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup, but started the former Bundesliga champions’ 4-1 hammering of Stuttgart Kickers 4-1 in the DFB-Pokal.
However, Reus failed to prevent Jurgen Klopp’s side from slumping to a shock 2-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park in their opening game of the 2014-15 Bundesliga campaign on Saturday.
The hosts were stunned after just nine seconds when Karim Bellarabi scored the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.
Hakan Calhanoglu and Son Heung-min combined to set up the 24-year-old for the opener, and the winger teed up Stefan Kiessling for Bayer’s second goal in the fifth minute of injury time.
Dortmund did create chances in the contest, but only four of their 11 shots were on target.
Reus started behind the front two of Ciro Immobile and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and was replaced by Jonas Hofmann in the 75th minute.
The former Borussia Monchengladbach star has been strongly linked with a move to United, but it does not look very likely that he will leave Dortmund this summer.
The 25-year-old still does not seem to be at 100%, but as the season progresses, he will get better and hit top form. Reus is one of the best attack-minded players in Europe and will be crucial in Dortmund’s quest to regain the Bundesliga title this season.
