Will Mario Balotelli succeed at Liverpool? Richard Keys gives his verdict

Balotelli Milan back

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has his say on Mario Balotelli’s impending move from AC Milan to Liverpool.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys believes that Mario Balotelli to Liverpool will not work out.

The Italy international striker reportedly has had a medical at Melwood and is set to sign a contract worth £90,000 a week with the Premier League club.

AC Milan will be paid £16 million as transfer fee in a deal that seemingly suits all parties.

However, Liverpool may end up paying the price for signing a player whose on-pitch and off-pitch problems are well documented, according to the renowned Keys.

‘Whenever I see these things happening it takes me back to a conversation I had with Graham Taylor once, who said of people such as Balotelli: they never change’, he told Sport360.com.

‘Every different manager that buys them, every coach that works with them expects that they can bring something to the party, it doesn’t happen.

‘I hope Brendan knows exactly what he’s getting himself into and I hope it works out but I just have a fear it’s not going to, because these things don’t tend to’.

One can understand Keys’s apprehension. Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini had problems with Balotelli at Inter Milan and Manchester City respectively - and at 24 the striker is not a ‘kid’ or 'young' anymore.

Having burst onto the scene as a teenager at Inter, Balotelli has often hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. A temperamental player, the Italy international has made the news for his off-pitch activities on numerous occasions.

But perhaps Balotelli will start his Liverpool career knowing that this is his last chance to make an impression on a big club.

The 24-year-old was delighted to have left Manchester City and England for AC Milan in January 2013, but it did not work out at the club he supported as a boy.

Now that Balotelli is set to join another Premier League outfit, this time it could be drilled into him by his management that this is his last chance to rescue his career and establish himself as one of the best players in the world.

Balotelli has the potential to make it at Liverpool – it is just a matter of him keeping his focus.
