Andy Gray asks: Should Tottenham be considered title challengers?

White Hart Lane 5

Tottenham Hotspur have started the Premier League season in flying fashion, surpassing Chelsea and Arsenal in the table.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a number of quality options to lead their striking line in the current 2014-15 Premier League season but, should Spurs complete a deal for one of Loic Remy, Mattia Destro or Javier Hernandez, then they could go from a side hustling for a place within the Europa League qualifying positions in the league, to one who can clinch a top four spot and even contend for the title.

That is the view of renowned commentator and football analyst Andy Gray, who marveled at the way in which Tottenham Hotspur "dismantled" Queens Park Rangers at White Hart Lane on Sunday, August 24 in order to take them straight to the top of the Premier League table, ahead of London rivals Chelsea (in second) and Arsenal (fourth).

"West Ham is a tricky opening but they got through it even with ten men and nicked a 1-0," said Gray during a v-log with Richard Keys on the latter's official website. "QPR were all over the place," he added, offering his take on the club's weekend victory.

Goals arrived from Nacer Chadli (twice), summer signing Eric Dier and Emmanuel Adabeyor to keep Mauricio Pochettino's Lilywhite troops on track for an ambition their manager targeted pre-season - a top four finish.

"It's one thing to beat a bad side but it's another to dismantle them and they beat them clinically. I liked that about Tottenham Hotspur."

Gray, though, does not believe that Spurs are the finished product and must complete a deal for one particular type of player in the summer transfer market if they are to continue their current form and make good on Pochettino's ask - top four.

"If they can get a genuine front-man they can go close to clinching top four. They have great depth. They have every reason for Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs fans to think this could be a very good season for them," Gray said.
