Manchester City earned a statement-making 3-1 win over Liverpool on Monday night, with the hero for the home side none other than Stevan Jovetic.
Opening the scoring after 41 minutes, the Montenegrin striker then bagged his second 10 minutes into the second-half, before substitute Sergio Aguero sealed the result seconds after coming on in the 69th minute.
An own goal from Pablo Zabaleta seven minutes before the end ruined Joe Hart’s hopes of a clean sheet, but it was an otherwise efficient performance from the Premier League champions, who came so close to losing out on the title last season to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
For Jovetic, the match was another step towards revitalising his career at the Etihad Stadium, following a disappointing debut season in England, when injuries ruined his chances of establishing himself in the first-team.
Arriving from Fiorentina last July for around £22 million, the 24-year-old managed just three goals in 11 league appearances during the 2013-14 campaign, but an impressive pre-season left fans eagerly anticipating what he could do this term and, as the reaction shows, they were not left disappointed.
Jovetic, let's hope he stays fit. Like a new signing! #mcfc— Lisa W (@Lis2808) August 25, 2014
Said it from the start that jovetic is class. No arty farty, eye for the goal as soon as he's on the ball. Fantastic player.— Samuel Houghton (@Sam_DH_MCFC) August 25, 2014

I have been saying Jovetic had the potential to be a world class forward since before he signed for city and now he's getting his chance— constantine linardos (@clinardos14) August 25, 2014

Jovetic is some player and since pre season has been on fire. Worried he won't get chances but most hardworking striker #mcfc have by far— Lyndon Roberts (@LyndonRoberts) August 25, 2014
How important will Jovetic prove to Manchester City this season?
