Manchester United’s Juan Mata welcomes new teammate Marcos Rojo

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata believes that Marcos Rojo will be successful with the Red Devils.

Marcos Rojo became the third summer signing for Manchester United last week when he moved from Sporting Lisbon for a reported transfer fee of £16 million.

The Argentina international has arrived at Old Trafford with a strong reputation, having proved his doubters wrong at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The 24-year-old was a key player in the South American country’s progress to the final of the tournament and was named in the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team.

And now Rojo has joined United, a club he described as the biggest in the world. As with players moving to the Premier League from mainland Europe, there are doubts on whether the former Spartak Moscow left-back can succeed in the English top flight.

But United midfielder Juan Mata has no doubt that Rojo will be a success at United and pointed out his performances in Brazil as proof.

‘During the week Marcos Rojo became our new team-mate’, the 26-year-old Spain international wrote on his blog. ‘I would like to welcome him and I wish him all the best with our club. I believe he can contribute a lot of good things to the team as he showed, for instance, in the last World Cup with Argentina’.

Rojo may not be a world-class player at the moment, but he is talented and is versatile. The former Estudiantes star can play as a centre-back and a left-back, and will be crucial in Louis van Gaal’s side’s chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.
