Jordan Henderson insists that Liverpool travel to Manchester City full of confidence that they can pick up a result.

The Reds meet City tonight in what is the Premier League’s first marquee clash of the campaign.

And, whilst Henderson admits that he is expecting a tough test, the England midfielder is convinced that his team can pick up the three points.

"We're always confident," Henderson said to Liverpool’s official site.

“With how far we have come and the progression we have shown, we can be confident against any side and that will be no different. We'll approach the game as we do every week, full of confidence and going there wanting to win.

“It's a big game. Manchester City will have a lot of confidence so it will be a tough game for us but one that we relish and look forward to. We'll be raring to go."

In the corresponding fixture last year, City ran out 2-1 winners in a close encounter.

The Reds had taken the lead in that match, but Manuel Pellegrini’s men showed their fighting spirit to come from behind and take the three points.

Tonight, Liverpool will be looking to avoid a similar scenario repeating itself and will know if they are able to score first they must retain their advantage.

This year, the Merseyside outfit are without Luis Suarez, but they have more quality in the rest of their squad and Rogers will hope that they can show that his additions have helped them progress, even without their talisman.

If they were to win tonight it would be the first physiological blow to be landed by one of the title contenders this season.

The four leading challengers – which include Chelsea and Arsenal – are yet to lose in this early stage of the competition, but that record threatens to be broken tonight.

For Liverpool to retain their unbeaten status it will require a huge improvement on their opening day display.

The Reds rather stumbled past Southampton at Anfield in their first match of the season in a lackluster performance, but will know that anything other than their best is likely to come up short tonight.

What will the score in tonight's Liverpool match be?
