No United bid for van Gaal's World Cup favourite despite £17m rumours, agent confirms

Louis van Gaal

Despite speculation that Ajax's Daley Blind is set to sign for Manchester United, the player's agent says that there has been no approach.

Manchester United's pre-season campaign appeared to show that the tide was turning under new manager Louis van Gaal, but two poor results to start the season have dampened spirits around Old Trafford. A 2-1 defeat to Swansea on the opening day of the season and 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday has left United fans desperate for new signings after another frustrating summer in the transfer market.

Whilst the likes of Mats Hummels, Mehdi Benatia, Arturo Vidal and Arjen Robben have been linked with big money moves to Old Trafford to bring in the new era, United have only managed to land Southampton left back Luke Shaw, Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Sporting Lisbon defender Marcos Rojo.

Real Madrid's Angel di Maria looks poised to completed a £60m switch after forcing a move from the Spanish giants, but United can't afford to stop there - more signings are needed. AC Milan's Nigel de Jong is a target for van Gaal after he starred under the 63-year-old at the World Cup this summer, and another of his Netherlands players is of interest - Daley Blind.

The 24-year-old was one of the best players at the World Cup, and his versatility to play centre back, left wing back and in midfield makes him perfect for van Gaal's 3-4-1-2 system which has so far failed to get off the ground at Old Trafford due to the personnel available.

Rumours late on Sunday suggested that Blind was closing in on a £17m move to United and a reunion with van Gaal, but the player's agent says that there has been no approach from United, with less than a week to go until the transfer deadline.

"At this moment Manchester United have not been in touch with me or Ajax about Daley and I’m not sitting here waiting for the call," said Rob Jansen.
