According to reports today, Marseille have offered Chelsea the chance to sign Ghana World Cup star Andre Ayew.

Chelsea's summer transfer overhaul has so far served them well. Jose Mourinho brought in the likes of Filipe Luis, Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa and Didier Drogba for around £60m, whilst allowing Ashley Cole, Ryan Bertrand, Patrick van Aanholt, David Luiz, Frank Lampard, Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Romelu Lukaku to leave the club - and it's worked so far, with wins over Burnley and Leicester to kick off the new season.

Striker Fernando Torres has been linked with a move to AC Milan as the Serie A side look to replace Mario Balotelli, who signed for Liverpool on Monday, and should the Spaniard leave, Mourinho will almost certainly make a move to sign another attacking player.

Roma's Mattia Destro has been a suggested target in recent days, but the Blues have now been offered the chance to sign one of the stars of the World Cup - Marseille's Ghanaian international Andre Ayew.

The 24-year-old, who can play out wide or up front, has hit 49 goals in his last four seasons at Marseille, posing a goalscoring threat to all defences in Ligue 1. He proved his worth in front of goal at the World Cup too, scoring against the United States and Germany as Ghana's star player in Brazil.

However, Marseille are reportedly looking to balance the books this summer, even after the departure of Mathieu Valbuena to Dinamo Moscow. Now, speculation suggests that Marseille president Vincent Labrune is currently in London, and has offered Chelsea the chance to sign Ayew.

West London rivals Queens Park Rangers are also being linked with a move for Ayew, but if Chelsea decide they want to pursue Ayew, it's unlikely that QPR would be able to compete with the financial clout of Mourinho's men.
