Everton fans react on Twitter to imminent Eto'o signing - 'A no brainer!'

Samuel Eto'o Cameroon

Everton are reportedly on the verge of completing a two-year deal for experienced striker Samuel Eto'o.

Former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o is on the verge of signing a two-year deal to stay in the Premier League with Everton.

Frequently criticised last season by Jose Mourinho for his age and the restrictions that creates, Eto’o appears to have opted to stay in English football and play for Spaniard Roberto Martinez.

Martinez deserves tremendous praise for any deal because Eto’o has the experience and calibre to have moved onto clubs in arguably better positions who could offer the Cameroonian better terms.

Eto’o can be effective for the Toffees in a number of ways with his ability to help younger players at the club one of the biggest benefits.

He could form a superb relationship with Romelu Lukaku, who also linked up with Everton on a permanent basis following a spell at Chelsea.

Lukaku is still a very young and raw striker, who could benefit tremendously from the experience Eto’o has and there are plenty of tricks the Belgian can learn in terms of Eto’o’s positional awareness and experience from various leagues around Europe.

The Guardian suggests that Liverpool’s capture of Mario Balotelli for £16 million makes Eto’o’s move to Everton more likely, with the Reds effectively ruling themselves out of the race to get him.

Arsenal also pose a threat but it seems everything is in place for Eto’o to become an Everton player and focus on driving the Toffees into the Champions League places by the end of the campaign.

It will be fascinating to see how Martinez gets the best out of Eto’o in what could be the final big deal of his career as he’ll be 35-years-old by the time any two-year contract he signs with the club expires.

Here’s what Everton fans have made of the news via social media website Twitter.

How do you think Eto'o will get on at Everton?
