Manchester United loanee Nani has been speaking about the Champions League following his loan move to Sporting Lisbon.

Manchester United winger Nani has been speaking about his hopes for the season following his loan move to former club Sporting Lisbon.

The Portuguese international went the opposite way to United’s third summer signing Marcos Rojo; and while the latter will not have any European football to enjoy this season, the former is looking ahead to a Champions League campaign.

In quotes published by A Bola, Nani refused to set a specific target for this season’s competition, saying only that he aimed to help his side as best as he could.

“It is difficult to say where we will arrive,” he said. “It is a very difficult test, with very experienced teams.

“We are focused on our goals, which is to play well and get as far as possible.”

Nani will be taking part in yet another Champions League campaign while the players he has left behind at Old Trafford will have their minds solely on a domestic campaign.

Some believe that will be an advantage as Louis van Gaal attempts to guide his new players back into the top four. But it will be unfamiliar for United’s star men as they need to step up after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Nani’s erratic performances in a United shirt have been such that few fans are that sad to see him depart – if only temporarily for now. But he still believes he has the nous to help his new teammates in Europe’s elite competition.

“I hope that my experience can instil confidence and can help the squad in some aspects,” he said.

“The most important thing is we are all united and focused on our goals.”

That is a mantra his former teammates at Old Trafford would also be wise to adopt.

Do you think Nani will prove to be a success during his loan spell?
