Ronny Deila admits Celtic’s failings
Ronny Deila has admitted that Celtic were not good enough to qualify for the Champions League last night.
The Bhoys crashed out of Europe’s elite competition after a 1-0 defeat at home to Maribor in what was a bitter blow for the side.
Deila was making no excuses, though, and explained that his side simply hadn’t been good enough to make it into the group stages.
"At the end, there is only one thing to say, we haven't been good enough and we haven't deserved to go to the Champions League,” Deila said after the match.
"There is no excuse. We are not good enough."
Callum McGregor cannot believe Celtic exit
Callum McGregor says that the entire Celtic dressing room were in shock after they were dumped out of the Champions League last night.
The defeat to Maribor was a crushing blow for the Scottish champions and McGregor, who has been one of the stars of their season so far, admitted it was tough to take.
"The dressing room was silent at the end,” he revealed. “We couldn't believe it."
“The feeling now is a mix of everything - anger and frustration."
McCoist blames Simonsen for Queens Park goal
Ally McCoist has blamed Steve Simonsen for his side conceding against Queen's Park.
The Gers managed to win the game 2-1, but they were given a scare after going behind when Simonsen came to collect a free-kick only to get beaten to the ball.
"I'll need to see it again but if Simmo comes he has got to get it,” McCoist said. “I'm not sure he had to come. In hindsight he should probably have stayed on his line. It's a sore one for him and a sore one for us."
McCoist hails Boyd
Although Ally McCoist may not have been happy with Simonsen, he was more pleased with striker Kris Boyd.
The Light Blues front-man scored both of his side’s goals in their come-from-behind victory over Queen's Park and the boss was quick to pay tribute to his performance.
"I thought Kris's first goal was excellent and the way he held his position for the second goal was good," he said. "A lot of forwards would have got sucked in."
"But that is what he does. If we can supply him with chances in and around the penalty box and six-yard box he will score."
Should Deila be sacked after the Champions League exit? How many goals will Boyd get this season?
