Having already landed the likes of Brendan Galloway, Muhamed Besic, Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku already this summer, manager Roberto Martinez made another move on Tuesday night with the capture of former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon international, 33, left Stamford Bridge at the end of the season upon the expiration, and says that he is excited to be joining the Everton family.

"It is exactly as Roberto Martinez said to me; the Club is run like a family and I want to establish myself as an integral part of that family as soon as possible," said the former Inter Milan and Barcelona man.

Eto'os arrival at Goodison Park is another sign of the progress Everton are making under Martinez, and the Toffees get another chance to prove their top four credentials on Saturday evening against Chelsea - where Eto'o could make his debut against his former club, despite Martinez's concerns over his fitness having had no pre-season.

"It is difficult. I tried to have that conversation and realistically I would have liked him to have 10 or 11 sessions before we put him in a competitive environment," Martinez said. "But I quite quickly learned that I was wasting my time; he wants to be helpful to the team straight away and he wants to be involved. He is working today and everything will go down to what condition he has over the next two or three days to make that decision."

Meanwhile, Everton have worked hard this summer to extend the contracts of young stars John Stones and Ross Barkley, and another youngster has prolonged his stay at Goodison Park with defender Tyias Browning signing a new deal until 2017.

"I'm absolutely delighted to sign. I’ve been here since I was a kid and this new deal shows the faith that the manager and staff have in me," said Browning. "I've loved being around the first team. I've learnt so much and I'm ready to kick on when called upon."
