Manchester United legend Gary Neville highlighted one positive to come from the club's defeat at the MK Dons last night.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville pointed out one positive to come from last night’s defeat at MK Dons, which relates to Louis van Gaal’s decision to use several youth team players in his starting line-up.

Neville re-tweeted that it’s now been 3,703 consecutive first team games (since 1937) at United where at least one youth team player has been part of the match day squad for the game.

Van Gaal showed a lot of guts starting the likes of Michael Keane, Reece James and Saidy Janko among others when he could have shut up shop and fought for a win with a stronger side.

One of the modern traits van Gaal has shown is a tendency to use younger players.

He’s consistently touched on the fact he gave the likes of Xavi and Iniesta their first chances in the game while he included 16 home based players in his Netherlands World Cup squad.

There’s an awful lot of work to do but van Gaal seems keen to blood these younger players at a time when expectations are low and that experience will do them good further into their Manchester United careers.
