Modibo Diakite will no longer be a Sunderland player by the weekend.

Paolo Di Canio's reign at Sunderland saw plenty of dud buys enter the club, one of which was Modibo Diaktite. The French defender was snapped up by the club from Lazio on a free transfer in June last year, but after Gus Poyet's arrival he was rarely used and in January he was loaned back to Italy with Fiorentina.

Yesterday saw Poyet talking about Diakite's potential next move, as he is not in his plans for Sunderland's latest campaign. The Uruguayan boss stated:

“Diakite has got 10 options. The problem is managing them because he has got his priorities as well.”

It is believed Sunderland are willing to let him go on a free transfer, as long as his contract is bought out in some way.

The fact is they want him off the wage bill and according to his agent he will be gone by Friday.

Ulisse Savini told football-please.com:

"With regard to the situation Diakitè-Sunderland are the details for termination: no later than Friday finalise everything and then we will focus on the future of the boy.

Many clubs are interested from different countries, we will evaluate the best solution as well as economically from the point of technically. The desire of the boy is to return to Italy , so it is clear who has priority over everyone else."

He mentioned teams such as Sampdoria, Parma, Genoa, Palermo, Fiorentina and even champions Juventus as possible destinations but one place he won't be playing is England. His agent said of that possibility:

"I do not see a future in England, there the guy did not make it the best and it is not considered as he deserves. Anyway terminating before the close of the session, our market will not close on September 1 but will continue after, so it will be easier to find the best solution."

Sunderland fans however will not be disappointed to see yet another Di Canio dud leave the building.

Will you be sad to see Diakite go? Did he get a fair crack?
