Jose Mourinho's side were paired with Schalke 04 (again), Sporting Lisbon and the side who knocked Celtic out at the qualifying stage (again) Maribor.
In reacting to the draw, however, some of the Blues' biggest stars have erred on the side of caution - or so it would seem.
World Cup winner Andre Schurrle, for one, believes Chelsea face a 'tough group.'
In interpreting Schurrle's tweet, though, many on Twitter have asked 'what is it with Chelsea players and banter?'
Indeed, the implication is that Schurrle is poking fun at how easy Chelsea's group is - at least compared to what it could have been.
Arsenal, for instance, have been drawn in the same group as Borussia Dortmund for the second year running, while Liverpool have been paired with Real Madrid.
But spare a thought for Manchester City, who have been handed an extremely difficult group for the third year running, in facing Bayern Munich, Roma and CSKA Moscow.
Schurrle, then, could be seen as a rather cheeky chap...
