Report - Two conditions if United allow Welbeck to join Spurs

Welbeck Claps

Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is reportedly keen on a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Mail claims Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck is keen on a move to Tottenham Hotspur with two conditions likely to be required from the Old Trafford side.

Welbeck has reportedly been told he is free to leave Old Trafford as Louis van Gaal continues to get to grips with the squad left behind by former managers Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes.

“They will pursue a loan deal but know United, although reluctant to let players join their rivals, will consider a deal where Tottenham pay the England international's wages in full. Conditions would also be put in place where Welbeck would also be unable to play against them,” reports the Mail.

The condition over wages shouldn’t come as a huge surprise because it’s a common condition for top sides when they loan out their best players.

In some instances, the wages are subsidised on both sides but in this case it seems clear that United want Spurs to carry the full cost of Welbeck’s personal terms if they agree to loan him to the North London club.

The other condition, that Welbeck can’t play against United, also shouldn’t be a huge surprise for two reasons.

Firstly, Welbeck is an extremely intelligent attacking player who could play through the middle or off of the left hand side in a game against United.

Secondly, United look as though they are going to be fighting in a similar group and position to last season which makes Tottenham one of their direct rivals.

Van Gaal has shown his hand already this season in terms of his attack and Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie will be his key strikers for the majority of the campaign.

The Dutchman has also shown evidence that he’s likely to retain Javier Hernandez, who he's likely to continue using as back up to Rooney and Van Persie throughout the season.

The lower number of games United will play following their League Cup exit means there’s less need to have a huge squad and that means Welbeck can be sent out on loan.

Do you think Welbeck will join Spurs before the deadline?
