Ex-goalkeeper: Chelsea star may leave in January

Carlo Cudicini

Carlo Cudicini thinks Petr Cech is highly likely to leave Stamford Bridge - but not during this transfer window.

If anyone knows how Petr Cech feels right now, it's Carlo Cudicini.

Indeed, the former Chelsea goalkeeper lost his place in Jose Mourinho's side to Cech in exactly the same circumstances as the 32-year-old has just lost his to Thibaut Courtois.

Both remained friends - and even went to dinner together regularly, according to the Italian - but Cech was top dog when it game to goalkeeping for the Blues.

And Cudicini thinks nothing less will do for a player of Cech's calibre, meaning a January exit could be on the cards.

“A goalkeeper of his calibre will try to win the No1 jersey back but if Courtois does his job well and keeps it, then I don’t think that Petr will stay," Cudicini told the London Evening Standard.

"It might be in January, it might be the end of the year but I don’t see him staying. That’s my idea but I might be wrong.”

However, Cudicini has offered a glimmer of hope to those who want a Chelsea stay for Cech, adding:

"Ten years ago I decided to stay and I don’t regret it at all.”

Indeed, during his time in west London, the now 40-year-old shot stopper made several appearances for the Blues despite being Mourinho's no.2.

It is something Cudicini appreciates and something that could play a part in keeping Cech at Stamford Bridge.

But will it be enough?

Is Cech guaranteed to leave Stamford Bridge this season?
