David Gold reveals West Ham have made 'a big signing'; announcement today

Upton Park

West Ham United are on the verge of announcing a new arrival.

Chairman of West Ham United David Gold has taken to Twitter to reveal that the Hammers have made what he calls “a big signing”.

The full message read: “We have just made a big signing. He’ll be introduced to the supporters before kick-off today.”

While there is a large element of mystery to the tweet it is widely believed that the player to whom Gold is referring is Alex Song.

Recent reports have suggested that the Barcelona midfielder will move to Upton Park on a season-long loan deal, with claims that he missed training with the Spanish club to finalise the deal earlier today.

The Cameroon international was tipped to move to Liverpool earlier this summer, while his former club Arsenal were also said to be interested. But it seems he could instead be heading to West Ham, which would be quite a coup for Gold and manager Sam Allardyce.

Just how “big” a player Song is is up for debate, and for now we cannot be certain he is the man set to be revealed to the West Ham fans prior to their match against Southampton this Saturday afternoon.

Who would you like to see West Ham bring in between now and Monday night?
