Former Arsenal star given permission to leave – back to Premier League?

Alex Song Cameroon

Barcelona have announced that former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song can leave the club if he wants to, with West Ham United reportedly keen on him.

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song appears to be heading back to the Premier League after he was given permission by his club to sort out his future.

The former Arsenal star’s future has been under speculation for much of the summer following the appointment of Luis Enrique as Barca’s new coach.

Song joined the Spanish giants from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, but has made fewer than 50 La Liga appearances in the past two seasons.

It now appears that the former Bastia star will head back to the Premier League on a season-long loan deal with West Ham United, as Barca announced on their official twitter page that Song will not train on Saturday and has been given permission to speak to other clubs.

The Telegraph reports that Song will join West Ham on loan for the 2014-15 campaign. The Cameroon international has also been linked with Galatasaray and Napoli, but he wants to play in the English top flight once again.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were linked with moves for Song as well, but it seems that they were not that interested in signing the 26-year-old.
