Manchester United and Ajax agree fee for Daley Blind - report

Old Trafford

Ajax defender-cum-midfielder Daley Blind could finally be on the verge of a move to Manchester United, with the two sides reportedly agreeing a fee of around £14 million for the Dutchman.

Ajax utility man Daley Blind has been linked with a move to Manchester United throughout the summer, but it now looks like a deal may finally be close.

According to reports, the two clubs have already settled on a fee of around £14 million, with the player just needing to agree to personal terms, which is expected to be a formality.

The son of Ajax and Netherland legend Danny Blind, the 24-year-old starred in the holding role for the Erevidisie champions last season, winning the Dutch Footballer of the Year award after helping Frank de Boer’s side to their fourth-consecutive title.

Going on to establish himself as a crucial part of Louis van Gaal’s World Cup squad in Brazil, the 19-times capped international would start all seven game during the Oranje’s run to a third-place finish, while being hailed as the best left-back of the tournament.

Rumoured to be linking up with his ex-national team boss at Old Trafford since, Ajax board member and former United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar appeared to refute claims of an imminent deal less than 48 hours prior, although his comments came after he was said to have been spotted at the Carrington training ground earlier in the week.

With United needing cover in a number of defensive positions, Blind’s prized versatility would see him become a hugely valuable asset to Van Gaal’s squad, having already thrived in the Dutchman’s favoured 3-5-2 system.

News of a potential deal also comes in the same week that United made another major splash in the transfer market, with the long-awaited signing of Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria for a British record fee of £59.7 million.

Joining fellow summer arrivals Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo, the club’s spending could be brought to over £150 million with Blind’s addition, but a drawn-out pursuit of midfielder Arturo Vidal looks to have come up short, after Juventus manager Massimo Allegri declared that the Chilean international would not be leaving the club.
