Michael Owen: Liverpool game will prove this about Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Huddle

Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen is looking forward to Sunday’s Premier League clash between Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur have won both of their Premier League matches so far this season and are looking like real contenders for a top-four finish.

On Sunday, Spurs host last season’s runners-up Liverpool at White Hart Lane – and this game will show how far the North London outfit can go in their quest.

That’s the opinion of former Manchester United and Newcastle United striker Michael Owen, who believes that the game will be ‘terrific’.

‘Liverpool stuck nine past Spurs without reply in the two PL fixtures last season but this looks a better Tottenham side under Mauricio Pochettino’, the Liverpool legend wrote on Betvictor.com.

‘That said I was in a minority who felt Liverpool played well at the Etihad in the first half on Monday night and had they been more clinical they could have got that vital opening goal.

‘Another terrific game in prospect and we should know if Spurs are realistic Champions League contenders on Sunday’.

Although it is early days in the season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have shown signs that this term they can compete all the way for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Tottenham have won all four of their competitive matches so far this season, which include a peremptory 4-0 victory over London rivals Queens Park Rangers at White Harte Lane last weekend.

On the other hand, Liverpool have not had the best of starts to their campaign, having slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Monday following a narrow 2-1 home win against Southampton.

However, on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers’s side will be all fired up and ready to take all three points off Tottenham.
