Romero agent in England to try and drive Liverpool deal

Reports in Italy suggest that the agent of Sampdoria goalkeeper Sergio Romero is in England to try and secure a transfer to Liverpool.

Argentine international goalkeeper Sergio Romero is in limbo and his agent is trying to speed up a transfer to Liverpool, according to Italian reports.

Romero has been repeatedly linked with Liverpool since Pepe Reina left the club for Bayern Munich, leaving a vacancy for a goalkeeper.

The arrival of Emiliano Viviano, who spent an unsuccessful 2013-14 warming the bench at Arsenal, has left Romero facing the prospect of being a reserve at Sampdoria next season.

The player's agent Mino Raiola successfully negotiated a deal for Mario Balotelli at Liverpool and seems to now be working on getting another of his clients a contract at Anfield.

According to Il Secolo XIX, Sampdoria want to free themselves of Romero's wage bill of around £1.2 million per year and would welcome a sale.

Raiola is said to have become frustrated by the pace talks are going at and has flown to England to try and expedite a solution.

However, there have also been suggestions that Manchester United are interested in the World Cup runner-up and could try and swoop.

Benfica and Monaco have also been linked with Romero over the last few weeks and may enter a bidding war.
