Manchester City Etihad 2

Stoke City recorded a shock win at Manchester City as Mame Biram Diouf's goal condemned Manuel Pellegrini's side to a 1-0 loss.

Upon Mark Hughes' return to the Etihad Stadium, the former Manchester City boss left with a 1-0 win after a shock victory this afternoon.

Despite having 73% of possession and a whopping 16 shots on goal, City should only muster 2 shots on target all game as they were left to rue a number of underwhelming individual displays against the Potters, who had been disappointing in previous games against Aston Villa and Hull City.

A stunning solo goal from former Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf handed Stoke their first Premier League win of the season, with the Senegalese hitman picking up the ball inside his own half before power his way past all oncoming City defenders and driving the ball through the legs of City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

City may feel somewhat aggrieved to have seen a strong penalty appeal turned down when Yaya Toure went down inside the box, but referee Lee Mason judged that the Ivorian had dived, and booked the midfielder for simulation - much to the dismay of everyone in blue.

It's a stunning turn up for the books as City had previously only failed to score in one of their last 70 games at the Etihad Stadium, and Stoke had failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 12 games, but Hughes' side fought valiantly late on to keep City at bay when the reigning Premier League champions piled on the pressure.

The results leaves City fourth with six points from three games, whilst Stoke's first win puts them up in to ninth at this early stage of the season.
