It was all going so well for Manchester City.
A 3-1 win over Liverpool had established their superiority over their nearest Premier League challengers from last season, while reports this morning suggested that Radamel Falcao could be on his way to the Etihad Stadium.
Then, the Champions League draw struck - and City were drawn in the same group as Bayern Munich again, as well as Serie A giants Roma and CSKA Moscow.
And perhaps that played on Manuel Pellegrini's mind ahead of this weekend, as the unthinkable followed.
Indeed, Stoke City, managed by former City boss Mark Hughes, left the Etihad with a shock 1-0 win, as Mame Biram Diouf scored a second-half winner to absolutely stun the defending champions.
After such a strong start to their title defence, few could have expected an away win, especially considering that the Potters had only managed one draw and one defeat - at home - in their opening two games.
But Hughes and co. came good and joined the likes of Bayern, Barcelona Wigan and the very small handful of teams to have beaten Pellegrini's side at the Etihad.
Here are the most memorable images from the game - Manchester City fans, look away now...
