Leeds United reportedly to sign exciting Italian youngster

Elland Road

Leeds United are reportedly to sign Cagliari defender Dario Del Fabro.

Amid the current upheaval at manager-less Leeds United, Italian owner Massimo Cellino is still keen to add more faces ahead of the transfer window deadline on Monday.

This summer, the Whites have brought in 13 new players – 10 on permanent deals – and that figure is set to increase further if reports in Italy are to be believed.

According to Sky Sports Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari defender Dario Del Fabro is to arrive in Yorkshire to complete a deal with Championship side.

“Cellino continues to bring players from Italy to Leeds. The newest acquisition is Dario Del Fabro, who arrives from Cagliari.” The report states.

The proposed deal is expected to be a season-long loan move and the fourth that the Elland Road outfit will have made this summer.

Del Fabro is a 19-year-old central defender who comes with a good pedigree of having represented the Italian national team at Under-16s through to the Under-19s, scoring his first goal for the Azzuri in 2013.

Last season, he plied his trade at Serie B side Pescara on a season-long loan after seeing his options limited at parent club Cagliari.

Leeds’ owner Cellino knows all about the player from his time at Cagliari and he will have earmarked him as a possible solution to his side’s defensive woes.

After just four Championship games on the board, Leeds have already shipped an alarming eight goals including four at fellow Italian-influenced side Watford.

Del Fabro has only featured six times in Serie A, but his reputation as an exciting youngster holds true and his debut performance up against Juventus striker Sebastian Giovinco was one to be admired.
