Dad of £13.8m United signing 'very proud' son is joining 'biggest club' in world

Old Trafford 2

Danny Blind is very proud that his son Daley is joining Manchester United this summer.

Manchester United are set to complete the signing of Dutch international Daley Blind from Ajax in the next 24 hours, after the player completed a medical at the club yesterday. The Ajax utility man will join United in a deal believed to be worth £13.8 million. The talented 24-year-old made a name for himself playing at wing-back in the World Cup but the truth is he can play virtually anywhere. His best position is arguably in holding midfield, while he has also covered right-back and centre back in the past. Think of him as Owen Hargreaves, without the chocolate knees.

He also comes from good lineage. His father is, as you know, Danny Blind. Blind Sr. played under Louis van Gaal in the Ajax team that won the Champions League in 1995 and was also part of his coaching staff at The Netherlands this summer. He spent most of his career with Ajax, staying at the club from 1986 until 1999 and has won a sensational list of honours including every UEFA competition and six Dutch titles. Needless to say, Daley Blind has good genes.

And his old man was very pleased to hear about his son's impending move to Manchester. Danny Blind told reporters about the United move:

"If your child moves to one of the biggest clubs in the world, and Manchester United are the biggest club, you're very proud."

Expect to see Danny Blind at plenty of Manchester United games in the future, not just for his son, but also to keep an eye on international captain Robin van Persie as part of his role as assistant coach to Guus Hiddink.

Can Blind have the success his dad did under van Gaal?
