Liverpool youngster quashes idea of deadline day exit

Suso - Liverpool v Wigan Warm Up

Amid speculation surrounding his future, Liverpool winger Suso has reiterated his desire to remain at the club this season, but is open to what path his career takes from there.

Having been left out of the Liverpool squad for the first two games of the season, and with a contract set to expire next summer, Suso’s future at Anfield has been the subject of on-going speculation.

Aged 20, the Spanish winger made 14 Premier League appearances during the 2012-13 campaign after joining from Cadiz in 2010, but spent last season out on loan at La Liga side Almeria, scoring three goals in 35 games.

He has since stalled on offers of an extension on his current deal over concerns about his first-team future, and Liverpool are understood to be considering whether to exploit what could be the last chance to secure a profit for his services.

Suso himself, however, has attempted to quash reports of an exit at this moment in time, reiterating his desire to fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers’ lineup, while also rejecting the idea of a rumoured loan move to AC Milan.

‘Liverpool are not likely to sell me and I do not want to leave either. What I would like is to stay here,’ he told IB Times UK.

‘In December I will be free agent but what I want is to renew here. I am very happy. I know the city and the club and I would like to stay.

‘I only have one year left on my contract so I cannot go out on loan.’

Nevertheless, the under-21 international did reveal that later offers could tempt him into leaving for pastures new, believing that he has the credentials to contend for a starting spot following last season’s loan spell.

‘The club have tried to renew me and I want to renew,’ he added. ‘But I have other offers too. It will depend on how things move forward this season. A player wants to play, it's what I want too. We've only played three games so let's be patient.

‘I believe I've become a more complete player during my loan spell at Almeria. That was the goal when I decided to go, to improve as a player and be more ready for this season at Liverpool.’

With Liverpool moving to bolster their squad this summer ahead of their return to Champions League, Suso looks destined to spend the bulk of the 2014-15 season confined to the club’s star-studded bench should he opt to remain at Melwood.

The skilful wide man no doubt has a great deal of potential to fulfil but, with first-team opportunities limited for the foreseeable future, a move elsewhere might just prove the best thing from a development standpoint, despite his perceived reluctance.

Does Suso still have a future at Liverpool?
