Manchester United fans react on Twitter to Shinji Kagawa sale

Shinji Kagawa with Nuri Sahin celebrating Bundesliga title

Manchester United have sold Shinji Kagawa back to Borussia Dortmund, but what do the Premier League club's fans think about the deal?

And so it is official: After much speculation, Shinji Kagawa has returned to Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal.

The Japanese international has reportedly been sold by Manchester United for around half the fee they paid for him back in 2012, and hats off to Jurgen Klopp for bringing a player he never wanted to see leave back to the club that also appears to be his home.

Kagawa was something of an enigma at United.  The majority of fans loved him despite rarely seeing what he did regularly in the Bundesliga.

Apart from a hat-trick against Norwich City and a few sporadic glimpses of brilliance, for the most part he looked out of sorts and - on occasion - out of position; although the fact that he often operates from the left for Japan quashes the myth that he cannot play there.

Kagawa was supposed to become a United great, and there is no doubt he had the talent to do that.  But after just 57 appearances, six goals and 10 assists, the 25-year-old has left United.

Most expect him to shine now he is back playing for a manager who believes he is one of the best play-makers in the game.  And if he does, expect United fans to have a wry smile at what might have been.

For now all they can do is react to the news, and after it broke we took to Twitter to see what they had to say. Below you can read a selection of what we found:
