New Liverpool star Mario Balotelli has wished Fernando Torres well on his move to AC Milan from Chelsea.

New Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has wished Fernando Torres well on his new adventure at Serie A outfit AC Milan.

Torres was an idol at Anfield, representing the Reds 142 times in all competitions and scoring 81 goals during a three-and-a-half-year period at the club.

In January 2011, however, the 30-year-old’s status as a Liverpool great quickly diminished following a then-record £50 million British transfer fee move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

His stay at the Blues has been problematic from the moment he arrived as previous injuries and a number of managerial changes at the club disrupted his time in West London.

It was then decided this summer after two-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge that it was time for a new challenge, with Torres heading to Milan on a two-year loan deal.

His move to the Rossoneri, however, can in part be thanks to former club Liverpool as the Merseysiders helped fund the deal with the £16 million acquisition of Mario Balotelli.

The controversial striker clearly holds boyhood club Milan at heart and demonstrated his affection by writing Torres a special good luck message on Instagram, saying: “Good Luck Fernando ! Make AC Milan flying high again!”

The Italian club were poor last season – finishing outside the European places - and their aim for this season will be to bring back Champions League football.

Will Mario Balotelli be a success at Liverpool?
