Louis van Gaal was reportedly holding off a bid for Arturo Vidal due to concerns over a knee injury, yet the Chilean appears just fine.
The midfielder did not play despite travelling on the Juventus pre-season tour of Asia, but featured for 86 minutes in the club's 1-0 away win over Chievo on Saturday night.
And if he is only half fit, what he can do when he is at 100 per cent is frightening based on his first Serie A game of the season.
It did not start well though, Vidal gave away a penalty as early as the seventh minute for a foul inside the box, which Chievo were unable to convert.
The midfielder was everywhere, completing 88 per cent of his passes and touching the ball 84 times.
Vidal recorded five successful tackles, matched only by Paul Pogba, and made one interception.
He also created three goalscoring chances, and registered three shots on goal himself - one hitting the woodwork.
The performance was typical of his strengths, strong in attack and defensively, and if United needed a prompt to cause them to make a late bid, any questions over his fitness were surely answered.
Have United left it too late to sign Vidal?
