Is this the reason Arsenal didn't fight to sign Radamel Falcao?

Arsene Wenger Press Conference Smiling - 16/02/2014

Manchester United have closed on a loan deal for Radamel Falcao which could leave Arsenal fans baffled.

As Radamel Falcao joins Manchester United on a season long loan deal, the question on the lips of many Arsenal fans will be, why didn’t the Gunners move for the Colombian?

The pressure on Arsene Wenger to add a world class striker to his squad has been huge and Arsenal could have boasted Champions League football to the Colombian.

What seems to have put the Gunners off is the wages Falcao is demanding in the move.

Initial reports suggest United are paying around £5.5-6 million for the loan deal, which increases to around £16 million once the personal terms for the striker have been taken into account.

Wenger is a firm believer in a socialist wage structure at the club and he doesn’t seem to have been keen on making an exception for a player, just for a single season.

United are thought to have an option to buy Falcao if the loan deal works out as they’ll be hoping but it’s a gamble the Old Trafford club have taken, which Wenger doesn’t seem to have wanted to.
