Manchester United star Juan Mata gives injury update

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata says that the injury he picked up against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday is nothing serious.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has not had a great start to the 2014-14 season.

The Spain international has struggled to be at his creative best and has been unable to guide the Red Devils to a competitive victory under new manager Louis van Gaal.

Then on Saturday, the former Chelsea star picked up an injury during United’s goalless draw with Burnley away from home.

Mata failed to finish the game at Turf Moor and was substituted with 20 minutes left, sparking suggestions that the former Valencia star could face a spell on the sidelines.

However, the 2010 World Cup winner has assured the United fans that his injury is not serious, while admitting his disappointment at his side’s failure to win at Burnley.

‘We played at Burnley and we had the need to win the match but once again we just got one point’, Mata wrote on his blog. ‘We couldn’t score despite we played practically in Burnley’s half after the break.

‘I couldn’t finish the game as I got a cramp in the back of my leg, but according to the medical tests it is nothing to worry about’.

Mata has struggled for form so far this season under manager Louis van Gaal, whose new 3-5-2 system is not working as well as many fans would have expected it to.

The Red Devils have yet to win in the Premier League this season and also suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to MK Dons away from home in the League Cup last week.

Van Gaal has insisted that United will come good in due time, but failure to win matches in the early stages of the season could prove detrimental in their quest to finish in the top four.

Will Juan Mata prove to be a failure under Louis van Gaal?
