German midfielder is on the cusp of completing a deal that will see him switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Hamburg on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby is near to completing a transfer to Bundesliga side Hamburg.

The German midfielder, who has struggled to break into the first-team set-up in North London, spent the tail-end of last season on loan at Fulham but is unlikely to receive regular competitive football at White Hart Lane and is surplus to Mauricio Pochettino's requirements.

Holtby is clear to join another club on a temporary basis this season and, as reports have stated recently, the likeliest destination is Hamburg - as he was photographed earlier today, Monday, outside the club's headquarters ahead of a medical examination.

Should the evaluation prove positive, then he will swiftly conclude a one year deal to the Imtech Arena outfit.

Holtby had also been linked with Everton, Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers.

Traditionally active participants during transfer windows, Spurs have modestly enhanced their squad in the summer market having completed sturdy acquisitions such as Federico Fazio, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Michael Vorm. Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez or Manchester United attacker Danny Welbeck could also join them.
