When Newcastle United snapped up French defender Mapou Yanga M'Biwa in January 2013 they did so from under the nose of several of European football's big clubs. He was a pivotal figure in the Montpellier side that won Ligue 1 in 2012 but has struggled to cement a place in the Newcastle United first team since his arrival at St James Park.
Undoubtedly he is a talented player but he made too many mistakes during his time on Tyneside and this summer it always looked like he would be on his way.
Teams in France were keen on his signature but now fellow Frenchman Rudi Garcia has moved to bring him to AS Roma. The Giallorossi sold Mehdi Benatia to Bayern Munich this summer and despite bringing in Kostas Manolas from Olympiakos they are moving in on the Newcastle United centre-back.
He has now been spotted in Rome ahead of completing his deal after 18 unsuccessful months under Alan Pardew.
Did M'Biwa get a fair crack at Montpellier?
