Report - Redknapp looking to poach Lennon and Sandro from Spurs

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp could snap up two players from his former club today for Queens Park Rangers.

The Daily Mail has reported that former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is keen on signing two players from his former employers.

Redknapp is reportedly keen on deals for winger Aaron Lennon and holding midfielder Sandro before the transfer deadline expires this evening.

“The striker (Jermain Defoe, also linked with QPR) has been at MLS side Toronto since July, but QPR are in the market for a forward after they lost Loic Remy to Chelsea and Defoe is ready to replace him on a permanent deal. Rangers also hope to tie up a loan deal for Sandro and are interested in Aaron Lennon, too,” reports the Mail.

In each case, Lennon and Sandro, there is an argument to suggest that Spurs could cope with the loss of each player.

Lennon’s pace and experience out wide is valuable but Erik Lamela has found form under Mauricio Pochettino and the Argentine has other versatile players who can play down the right hand side.

Losing the Beast wouldn’t be hugely popular with Tottenham’s fans but central midfield is one of the strongest areas of this current Spurs squad and Sandro has struggled to feature this season.

It’s a risk from the Spurs boss because the club faces a long season with a very realistic chance of success on multiple fronts.

However, he’s added well, and sensibly, in the transfer market throughout the summer and won’t commission deals to go through today if they jeopardise the strength and integrity of his squad.

One of the deals would have to be a permanent transfer due to loan regulations and the Mail suggests that’s more likely to be Lennon.

Redknapp is a master when it comes to the transfer window and rooting out late deals but even if Spurs lose two players to QPR, they’ll be in a strong position to take on their main rivals over the rest of the season.

What would you make of Lennon and Sandro both leaving Tottenham?
