Jamie Carragher: This Liverpool trio can be 'devastating' this season

The former Reds defender thinks Mario Balotelli, Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge can form a lethal strikeforce at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher has seen enough of Mario Balotelli to be excited by what he has to offer at Anfield.

And, together with Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge, Carragher thinks the 23-year-old can form a 'devastating' trio on Merseyside.

Balotelli made his debut for Liverpool during their 3-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, after signing for the Reds from AC Milan for a £16 million fee.

The Italy striker failed to score during his maiden appearance - and only hit the target once from five efforts.

But Carragher says he saw signs to suggest Balotelli can work with Sterling and Sturridge to form a lethal strikeforce.

"I expect him to do well. He's got good players around him," the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports News on Deadline Day.

"I think he did okay at [Manchester] City but he's older now, he's had more experience with the [Italian] national team and AC Milan and I'd like to see a better Mario Balotelli than the one that was at City.

"I think there were signs - the relationship with Sturridge and Sterling behind him. I think those three could be devastating, could be very difficult to handle. And I think they showed that at times [against Tottenham]. He [Balotelli] got a good hour."

Liverpool host Aston Villa after the international break, when Balotelli could get his first full 90 minutes in a Reds shirt.

The 23-year-old's team-mates, meanwhile, have already made their mark this term.

Indeed, only Eden Hazard has won more dribbles than Raheem Sterling after three Premier League games, while Sturridge is not far behind in terms of his skill at running at defences.
