Report: Welbeck wants Arsenal over Spurs, at Colney for medical

Welbeck Claps

The Manchester United striker has reportedly been given permission to speak to the Gunners.

According to the London Evening Standard, Danny Welbeck is at Arsenal's London Colney training ground to try and force through a move to the north London side.

Welbeck is at Colney to train with England anyway - but, according to the Standard, the Football Association have given the striker permission to speak with the Gunners about a move.

Many believe Arsene Wenger to be in serious need of a new forward, while Welbeck has reportedly been told he can leave Manchester United by manager Louis van Gaal.

The 23-year-old, however, has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur throughout Deadline Day.

But the Standard believe Welbeck prefers a move to Arsenal and discussions are said to have begun in a bid to force a switch before tonight's 11pm deadline.

Welbeck has been at Man United for six years, although those years included two loan spells - at Preston North End and Sunderland.

The striker was part of Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad and has been recalled for England's friendly against Norway and Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland.

United, meanwhile, are believed to be close to signing Radamel Falcao on loan, while they have already sold Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid - initially also on a temporary basis.

Welbeck is said to be available both on a permanent transfer or loan move, with Sky Sports now claiming he is having a medical with Arsenal.
