Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy was impressive against Leicester City.

Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy was one of the biggest positives to come from the 1-1 draw at Leicester City as the Frenchman impressed throughout.

The Emirates faithful have been accustomed to seeing a familiar face at right-back as the position was regularly occupied by the ever reliant Bacary Sagna.

The 31-year-old’s decision to leave the Gunners for Manchester City following the expiration of his contract during the summer ultimately left the club in a tricky position with a big void to fill.

Nevertheless, boss Arsene Wenger acted quickly with the reported £12 million acquisition of Debuchy from Newcastle United and it has so far proved to be a success.

At the Walkers Stadium and up against a difficult Leicester City side still high on confidence from promotion, the 29-year-old right-back was comfortable throughout as he produced a solid defensive display.

Aside from his defensive skills, the Arsenal right-back seems to play in a progressive manner and in some respect holds an advantage over the often cautious Sagna.

Of his 43 accurate passes, 36 of those were aimed in a forward direction which put his team on the front foot, often a stark contrast to his predecessor.

In spite of Debuchy’s positive start to life in North London, his side so far this season have struggled to get going after picking up five points from their first three games.
