Report - Campbell won't leave Arsenal unless Wenger does this deal

Joel Campbell won't be allowed to leave Arsenal unless Arsene Wenger pulls off a big money deal for Radamel Falcao.

Arsenal’s Joel Campbell reportedly told Arsene Wenger that he wanted to leave the Gunners over the weekend.

That original report appeared from Portuguese outlet O Jogo and it’s another Portuguese source, which has suggested the Costa Rican is unlikely to be going anywhere.

Record has suggested that the only instance where Campbell would be allowed to leave the club is if Arsene Wenger completed a deal for Colombian striker Radamel Falcao of Monaco.

Campbell was very public in the way he talked about his excitement at getting a chance with the Gunners this season but he’s so far struggled to get into the first team at the North London club.

He featured from the start in an under-21 fixture last week but will be hoping for more first team football at senior level.

Benfica seem prepared to offer him that but unless Wenger gives into the pressure from supporters to sign a striker at some point today, Campbell won’t be going anywhere.

Wenger has insisted ever since Olivier Giroud’s injury that he has enough cover in attack with Yaya Sanogo, Lukas Podolski, Campbell and the returning Theo Walcott all capable of playing as a centre forward.

However, Arsenal use a system which is based around one striker at the top of the team, which pushes Campbell down the pecking order, where he’s currently behind Sanogo and Podolski in terms of starting up front.

He was extremely impressive at the World Cup with Costa Rica and at Olympiacos last season, where he endured big pressure leading the frontline on high profile occasions.

He may harbour a desire to leave and play more but unless Wenger gets the cheque book out, Record doesn’t think a move will happen.
