Liverpool had a quiet deadline day having conducted most of their transfer activity well in advance of the frantic final day of business. Winger Oussama Assaidi left the club to return to Stoke City on loan, but striker Fabio Borini remains at the club after seeing moves to QPR and Sunderland fall apart. The Italian's agent, Marco De Marchi, says that the player will stay after Liverpool turned down loan approaches for the former Chelsea and Roma forward.
"The player still has two years on his contract with Liverpool and they decided not to consider offers for a loan," he said. "Inter Milan and other very important clubs in Europe wanted him on loan. Liverpool didn’t accept and then QPR made an offer to buy him immediately. But the proposal for the player was not a proposal for an important player."
"Now Fabio will stay with Liverpool and try to convince the coach to give him a chance. He is used to fighting for things. I don’t know what will happen in the January market."
Meanwhile, one of Liverpool's new signings, Alberto Moreno, impressed on Sunday against Tottenham with an all-action display at left back, which he capped off with a well taken goal to wrap up a 3-0 win. The 22-year-old, who arrived from Sevilla in a £12m deal, has replaced compatriot Jose Enrique at left back, but Enrique says he's willing to fight for his place.
"I know I have to go little by little and be patient," said the former Newcastle defender. "Moreno did really well and scored an amazing goal. For me the best thing about it was the pressing to win the ball back. That was half of the goal. How he finished was unbelievable.
"The most important thing is that we are a team. This is a team sport and we all have to fight to make this team better. Hopefully we can do even better than last season. I will have my chances. I know I have the confidence of the manager so I'm happy about that," he added.
Finally, Enrique and Moreno could yet be joined by another Spaniard at Anfield, as former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes continues to be linked with a move to Merseyside. The 32-year-old shot stopper is a free agent after injury scuppered his move to Monaco, but Liverpool are allegedly willing to wait until he reaches full fitness to make him Simon Mignolet's backup.
