David de Gea has wished Javier Hernandez well at Real Madrid.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has paid tribute to one of his closest friends at the club who exited on deadline day.

While the headline activity at Old Trafford involved Radamel Falcao coming in, Javier Hernandez's exit helped make it possible.

The Mexican was sent on loan to Real Madrid for the season, filling a need the Spanish giants have for a back-up for Karim Benzema.

Hernandez will always be a popular figure among United fans for his unassuming style and professionalism, never once complaining at a lack of regular football, and it would be folly to bet against him being a success at Real Madrid.

He appears to also be a highly regarded figure among his teammates, if David de Gea's parting message to him is anything to go by, describing the striker as a 'brother'.

A lot can happen in 12 months, and it is not impossible that Hernandez will wear the United shirt again, but for now everybody appears to have got what they wanted from the various deals - even if it is disappointing for the players to say goodbye to him.

Do you think Falcao will score more at United than Hernandez will at Real?
